This is the first Gaiman novel that I read. There are many editions out there with various covers, but this one is still the best IMO.

How many gods are there in America, or in the world for that matter? With so many people coming from so many different nations, cultures, and roots (or tribes), the land of America became the home of so many gods which were brought there by the worshpers who sought for a new beginning on the promised land.

Shadow, an ex con whose wife died just on the day he gains his freedom and makes him lost any purpose for his life, meets a very interesting man who later became his employer, Mr. Wednesday. All Shadow has to do is to follow what his boss say without any question and this finally leads Shadow to an unimaginable existence and an unavoidable clash of the titans: gods of the old days (from the myths) against the modern gods (the cars and traffic, computers and programs, banks and economy). And the revealation of who actually Mr. Wednesday and Shadow are is absolutely surprising. The greatest among Norse gods and his half human son.

BTW, it's just another trial test.
